Timing is crucialIf your use the mail, your release should be posted seven days before your embargoed story/event/launch. This gives plenty of time to journalists, especially if there are reports to be read or material researched. It is a good idea to fax the news desks either the day before or the morning of your announcement. Follow-upAfter you've sent out your media release, make follow-up calls to a key list of media people. Radio producers and local radio stations should always be followed-up with a phone call. Try to build up a network of journalists who know who you are.Be prepared to re-fax your media release - many will have been lost or mislaid.
